How To Do a Crystal Chakra Body Layout

I recommend this for beginners as well as people who have been working with crystals for a while. Why? Because it supports all your chakras at once, greatly speeding up healing. It’s also a super simple and helpful wellness practice.

Why are chakra body layouts so useful for healing? 5 reasons:

1. They work on unconscious patterns that are hard to heal.

One of the main problems with healing subtle energy patterns is that the way they operate is unconscious to you. You get so used to living with a diminished aliveness that it just seems like who you are.

This can make it hard to figure out which chakra to begin working with, or to even know what the problem truly is. The most persistent issues we have are invisible to us. But because balancing all the chakras covers all your basis, you don’t have to figure it out.

2. They work on all chakras at once.

The chakras are interdependent, meaning when one is out of balance, it can affect the others.

Therefore, working on them all at the same time is just more efficient and you don’t have to figure out exactly how they are all interacting. You just get better!

3. They keep your energy field stable and energized.

Crystal body layouts help you maintain energetic wellness. Even if you aren’t working on healing any particular issue, they help your general wellbeing by balancing and energizing all of your chakras.

When I do a body layout, after half an hour I am brimming with energy. It’s waaaay better than coffee.

4. The chakras cover every aspect of being alive–so you are supporting your entire existence.

This is my favorite part. Because all the chakras cover different aspects of human existence, by working with them all you are supporting every other activity you do in life.

Creativity? Check. Self-expression? Check. Spiritual connection? Check. Love? Check. Purpose? You bet. Whatever it is you want to heal, create, or accomplish, doing a regular chakra body layout will support you. You will have more strength, joy, and wellbeing on every level.

5. They help you understand the body’s energy system.

Chakras are key to understanding crystal healing and many forms of energy work. Simply by working with the crystals in this way, you will begin to think in terms of chakras as you go through your life.

Over time, you will also begin to sense energy, so you can stay in tune with yourself and what is going on with your energetic body.

Here’s how to do a basic body layout.

Lay down in a comfortable position. Get a blanket if you get cold easily. Set your phone to “Do Not Disturb”.

Starting at the bottom, place each crystal on the corresponding chakra (I’ll share which ones I use in a moment). Here’s where each of them go:

  1. Root Chakra – on the floor/bed/mat between your legs
  2. Sacral Chakra – two inches below your belly button
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra – two inches above your belly button
  4. Heart Chakra – in the middle of your chest at heart level
  5. Throat Chakra – on your throat
  6. Third Eye Chakra – in the middle of your forehead
  7. Crown Chakra – on the pillow close to the top of your head

Now just lay there and allow the energy to work on you for at least 30 minutes (I usually do 45 mins).

OK, so what do you do while you are laying there? Surprisingly, even though I find it hard to meditate and am generally pretty antsy about any form of meditating, I have never had a problem chilling out for these sessions. I don’t try to meditate or do anything on purpose–I just relax and let the crystals do the work.

I generally notice it takes about 20 minutes for my mind to calm down and stop chattering, and then I relax. By the end of the session, I am full of joy and energy. I’m sure this is different for everyone, but I would recommend just not worrying about it and letting yourself have the time to let yourself unwind however that looks.

If you really need something to do, you might work with some affirmations like, “I am open to complete healing on every level” or “I release any resistance to healing” or something similar. The key is to get into a state of receptivity and allowing.

You can’t force this state though–that would be counterproductive! So if you are not feeling particularly open, just do your best, and record that in your journal (I’ll talk more about keeping a journal in a second).

When your time is up, remove the crystals starting from the top.

These are the specific crystals I recommend starting with.

If you are new to crystals, the suggestions below are all suitable for beginners and commonly available. I’ve listed my favorite crystal for each chakra, along with alternates if you can’t find that one.

If you already have a collection of crystals, you may have enough to do a layout, even if you don’t have these exact crystals. To find out if your crystal works on a particular chakra, look up its properties. (See also: How do crystals and chakras relate).

Chakra My Favorite Alternate Stones
Root Chakra Red Jasper Smoky Quartz, Black Tourmaline, Bloodstone
Sacral Chakra Carnelian Orange Calcite
Solar Plexus Chakra Tiger Eye Citrine, Yellow Calcite
Heart Chakra Rose Quartz Aventurine, Emerald
Throat Chakra Blue Lace Agate Amazonite, Lapis Lazuli, Turquoise
Third Eye Chakra Amethyst Iolite, Sodalite
Crown Chakra Clear Quartz Moonstone, Selenite, Amethyst

One of the things I love about my top picks is that they are all forms of quartz so they work well together.

I recommend keeping a journal.

Think of it this way: if you go to the doctor, they are always taking notes and making charts of your symptoms and progress. Crystal healing is self-healing, and it is helpful to do the same. How will you know what works for you if you don’t keep track? This will also help you see progress over time.

For each session with your crystals, you can record the following information:

  • What body layout you used. (I recommend having a section at the back where you record your favorite basic body layout, and then note any variations you use).
  • What you felt like before starting.
  • What you felt like at the end.
  • Anything else you noticed.
  • You can also add notes to your last session if you noticed any changes in between sessions.

Have some fun decorating it! (In the future I plan to provide more printables to help people make a binder for their own Book of Light — sign up to the newsletter in the footer if you want to stay in the loop!)

When will you see results?

I felt amazing the first time I did it. (In fact, I generally lay there until I feel amazing!)

But this is really a practice that you have to explore for yourself. I recommend setting a goal to do it regularly for an initial trial period of one month and then do it at whatever interval fits in your schedule. I would recommend at least twice a week or ideally every day.

I predict you will feel lighter, happier, and start seeing things start to shift for you–but I believe first and foremost that you need to explore and find out for yourself.

If it turns out to be something you love, you will have a foundational practice of wellness that will serve you for years to come!
