Will Crystals Work For Me? 10 Signs They Won’t

Crystals aren’t for everyone. There are some prerequisites that you should know about.

Crystals aren’t for you if…

1. You aren’t open to transformation, growth, or change.

Not everyone is open to the kind of energy shifts that crystals can bring. Some people are genuinely not interested in truly changing.

You may be afraid of what that change might bring. Or maybe you’re just at a time in your life where you are overwhelmed, busy, or just want a break from transformational shifts.

The thing about growth is, you never know what exactly will happen when you start that journey. If you aren’t willing to be open to shifts, there’s not a lot of benefit to wearing crystals (besides looking fab of course).

2. You want a magic pill.

Sorry. Crystals are magic but they aren’t going to rescue you from your problems. They are going to ask you to grow. Like any healing or growth modality, you will get out what you put into it.

3. You are impatient.

Crystals work on the subtle energy body. While some people do have intense experiences, for many crystals are more of a long-term transformational support.

While I can get lost gazing at a tanzanite crystal, the gems I turn to the most are the ones that are supporting my chakra health over many months to help develop a healthy, strong pattern of wellness in that area.

4. You are an intensity junkie.

If you think grounding stones are boring, or you don’t want to learn how to be present in your body, then crystal healing may be too subtle for you.

Always seeking a thrill can be a sign of imbalance and an unwillingness to be present in your body. If this is the case, then working with a nourishing low-intensity stone like agate or a grounding stone like black tourmaline may be the most healing thing for you. Crystals can offer you a way into your body and being present in your life–if you want to take that journey.

5. You seek big or rare crystals as a status symbol.

If you look down on “common” crystals like rose quartz and amethyst and always want something exotic, you are not looking for what is right for you, you’re letting your ego run the show. This is about finding the healing you need, not a competition to see who has the fanciest crystals.

On the other side of that coin, if you really feel called to a crystal but aren’t willing to invest (or ask the Universe for help manifesting the funds), you could be missing out on the healing you need the most. If a crystal is meant to be with you, the support to have it is available to you if you ask.

6. You aren’t willing to cleanse and charge your crystals regularly.

Energy management is a huge part of using crystals. That means investing in a selenite charging plate, a singing bowl, palo santo, sage, or whatever your favorite cleansing method is (and please don’t use water unless you do your research on which crystals can handle it!).

7. You are trying to solve a medical problem with crystals and are refusing to get medical care.

I think crystals can definitely support you as you are healing from physical stress or disease. But they are not substitutes for medical care.

Medical care works on the physical body once symptoms have manifested physically. While you can use crystals to affect the subtle body, once an issue has fully manifested in the dense plane of physical existence, you need to work with a professional who works on that level.

In other words, please see a doctor if you need a doctor. This includes mental health isssues like serious depression and anxiety. These are physical issues too as they involve conditioned brain pathways.

Use crystals to help transform the underlying issues that contributed to these conditions—but also treat the conditions themselves on the level they are manifesting.

8. You aren’t willing to learn to create & maintain energetic boundaries.

Your crystals will work hard to clear your aura, but if you have no boundaries it will just get clogged up again. Learning how to manage your energy field is important, especially if you are an empath.

This doesn’t have to be hard; it’s more about making it a regular practice. There are many ways to do this, from sage to visualizing white light or my favorite, simply saying out loud, “Any energy that is not mine, please leave.” (If you need help in this area, I highly recommend Anna Sayce’s empath’s toolkit!)

9. You have no idea what you want.

Energy responds to intention. You need to have some sort of intention or commitment for crystals to help you. It doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to be sincere. It can even be, “I want to understand what I really want, what my heart’s desire truly is”.

10. You believe crystals are merely objects to be used for your benefit.

Crystal healing is a spiritual healing practice. Spirituality is about the way we relate to the world around us and within us, and healing is about restoring Right Relationship.

This isn’t just about treating your crystals with respect (although I obviously think that’s important). It’s about how you relate in general and if you can let go of the materialistic training of our culture and enter into a heart-centered relationship with the sacred world around you. This is where the magic really happens!

Still interested in crystals? Yay!

If you’ve read this far, good for you! I’m not actually trying to discourage anyone from trying crystals–this whole site is about them after all! I just want people to respect our crystal friends and the medicine and wisdom they are here to offer us.

If you’re not sure how to get started, I highly recommend this crystal kit. One of the best things you can do as a beginner is a chakra body layout. That is where you lay down for 30 minutes and place the appropriate crystal on each of your chakras. It is an AMAZING daily wellness practice and over time will help shift any pattern you have because the chakras cover all aspects of human experience.

Chakra Crystal Kit in Wooden Box
This set includes 10 stones, a pendulum, plus an 82-page ebook and reference poster at a great price--and it has 5/5 stars from over 400 reviews. This is the set I recommend for beginners--it has everything you need to get started!

And my favorite book to look up crystals in…

The Book of Stones, Revised Edition: Who They Are and What They Teach
If you are only going to get one book about crystals, get this one. It is comprehensive, beautiful, and highly respected by crystal practitioners. It contains the two authors' take on every stone, which I find highly valuable to see the commonalities and differences.
